Owain Wyn Evans takes time off Radio 2 after emergency surgery

BBC Radio 2 presenter Owain Wyn Evans has revealed that he is taking time off work after undergoing surgery.
The 41-year-old shared the news with fans on Instagram, posting a photo from hospital and praising the NHS for its care.
Owain said the operation was needed after doctors discovered “dodgy polyps” in his gallbladder. He wrote: “Our NHS is amazing. Turns out I had some dodgy polyps in the old gallbladder, so out it came. All fine now. I can’t thank the incredible staff at West Ward 6 and the surgical team at Llandough Hospital enough.”
He added that he’s now at home recovering and being looked after by his husband Arran and their cat, jokingly referring to them as “Nurse Franny and Dr Arran (who despite not being a medical doctor is doing a good job).”
Owain also reflected on how much the NHS has supported his family over the years, mentioning the ongoing cancer care for his father and multiple sclerosis treatment for his mother.
He said the health service also “quite literally saved Arran’s life when he was a child,” before adding: “Thank goodness we have it.”
Owain, who joined BBC Radio 2 in 2023, is expected to return to the station once he has fully recovered. Jason Mohammad is hosting his show this week.
