Jade Thirlwall recalls Benidorm holidays and karaoke beginnings

Jade Thirlwall revealed her unexpected love for Benidorm during a lively chat on Capital Breakfast with Jordan North, Chris Stark and Sian Welby this morning.

She even credited the Spanish resort as the place where her passion for music and karaoke began.

The former Little Mix star said her family regularly stayed at the famous Benidorm hotel that featured in the TV series of the same name.

She recalled taking the coach journey there as a child, spending her evenings watching drag queens perform Shirley Bassey numbers and feeling inspired to join them on stage.

“That’s actually where I found my love of karaoke,” Jade explained. “They’d be dressed like Shirley Bassey, they’d be singing ‘I Am What I Am’ and I’d be like, let me up there, I want to do that!”

Jordan North agreed with Jade’s enthusiasm for the resort, saying his family also holidayed there regularly. He recalled his grandmother’s words: “If you go Benidorm and can’t have fun, there’s something wrong with you.”

Jade admitted she misses the lively atmosphere of Benidorm, though she has not been back in recent years. “I’ve had a few friends that have had hen-dos there, but I kind of can’t go now. Maybe we should go to Benidorm,” she joked, prompting Jordan to suggest they take a trip together!

The group went on to share memories of the resort’s nightlife, including its famous Saloon Bar and the legendary Sticky Vicky. Jade paid tribute, saying “RIP Sticky Vicky,” before noting that her daughters have since taken over the family act.
