Lewis Capaldi reveals Elton John called him after Glastonbury

Lewis Capaldi has revealed that Elton John personally phoned him after his first Glastonbury performance to offer support and advice.

The Scottish singer joined Hits Radio Breakfast hosts Fleur East, James Barr and Producer Will earlier for their Friday Fry Up feature. During their conversation, Capaldi shared that the music legend encouraged him to take a break when he was struggling.

“The day after the first Glastonbury I got a phone call from Elton John and he was like it’s a great idea to take a break and that,” said Capaldi, who has recently returned to the spotlight with his new single Survive. “I knew he had my email but I didn’t know he had my number so he must have got it from management or something. He is a cool, cool guy, a cool dude.”

When Fleur asked if other artists had checked in on him during his time away, Capaldi admitted that while Niall Horan had kept in regular touch, not everyone who claimed they reached out actually did.

“There were some people that said they checked in on me, who did not check in on me. I can’t name and shame. It was bizarre, it was really weird,” he said.

Reflecting on his return, the singer said he was happy to be back meeting fans and preparing for a new tour. He highlighted Australia as one of the destinations he is most excited to return to, calling it his favourite place outside Scotland.

Capaldi added that this time around, he plans to pace himself better by building in more rest between shows.

The star also spoke about his experiences with therapy. “Me and my therapist always talk about steadying your platform, like within you,” he explained. “It’s not necessarily about being in a great place every day or a bad place every day but trying to be as stable as possible.

“Finding the balance in whatever you are doing. I always feel a bit unqualified when talking about therapy and stuff like that as I just do it, but it’s definitely helped me a lot.”
