Christina Aguilera joins Heart to talk Burlesque and Dirrty chaps

Christina Aguilera appeared on Heart Evenings with Dev Griffin last night to talk about the new Burlesque stage musical.
She also reflected on her iconic career and shared some behind-the-scenes moments that fans have never heard before.
Joined by the show’s original director Steve Antin, Christina discussed the musical adaptation of Burlesque, which is now heading to the stage more than a decade after the cult film’s release. But it was her stories about her biggest hits and boldest looks that really caught listeners’ attention.
Dev asked Christina about her 2002 anthem Beautiful, and she revealed that the opening lyric “don’t look at me” was actually a spontaneous moment that ended up staying in the song.
“It was real and it was raw and authentic,” she explained. “Linda [Perry] kept it in the song. It embodies it perfectly because it introduces that vulnerability but leads to optimism.”
Christina also looked back on her controversial Dirrty video, which she made with photographer and director David LaChapelle.
“It was outrageous and fun,” she said. “One of the best times I’ve ever had on a music video… I’m glad I had the balls to do it and wear the f***ing chaps!”
Laughing with Dev, Christina admitted she loves seeing people recreate the Dirrty look for Halloween. “I’m obsessed. I love seeing people dress in the chaps, the black and blonde hair, it’s a beautiful thing,” she said.
