Austin Butler tells Hits Radio James Bond role would be ‘sacrilegious’

Austin Butler and Zoë Kravitz appeared on the Hits Radio Breakfast Show this morning to promote their new film Caught Stealing.
With Fleur East, Will Best and James Barr away this week, Sam Thompson is still hosting and took the chance to quiz Butler about one of the hottest topics in film – the next James Bond.
Butler has previously worked with Denis Villeneuve, who is confirmed as the director of the next Bond movie.
Asked whether there had been any conversations about him taking the iconic role, Butler was quick to shut down the idea.
“I love that man but no calls as far as James Bond goes,” he said. “I don’t think that would be a good idea. I’m an American. I can do an accent but that would be kind of sacrilegious. Villain? That would be alright! I’d do that.”
The exchange came as Butler and Kravitz chatted with Thompson about their new project Caught Stealing, which sees them team up on screen in a crime thriller generating significant buzz ahead of release.
For listeners, the highlight was hearing the pair in a relaxed, light-hearted setting, with Butler’s self-awareness about Hollywood speculation adding to the charm of the conversation.
Kravitz, who has her own impressive list of blockbuster credits, joined in the fun but kept the focus on their latest film.
While Bond rumours continue to swirl, Butler appears happy to leave that speculation to others. But if a villainous role does become available, his comments suggest he’d happily take on a darker turn in the franchise.
