Austin Butler admits to taking things from every film set he’s worked on

Austin Butler shocked listeners when he revealed on Capital XTRA Breakfast with Robert Bruce and Shayna Marie that he has taken something from every film set he has worked on.

The actor appeared on the show alongside Zoë Kravitz this morning to promote their new film Caught Stealing.

During the chat, Shayna Marie asked whether either of them had ever taken props or costumes home. Butler confessed: “Yeah, every set.” He went on to explain that he sees items from his roles as his own, but Zoë Kravitz quickly jumped in, exclaiming: “No, dude! You are a thief!”

The conversation drew laughter in the studio, with Kravitz insisting that Butler has long denied taking anything, only to admit the truth during this morning’s interview.

“He’s like, ‘I take things from set though, they’re already mine.’ No, dude! You are a thief!” she said, to which Butler cheekily replied: “It’s not stealing if you believe it’s yours!”

Beyond the playful exchange, Butler also spoke about his connection to Hank, his character in Caught Stealing. He described Hank as “an imperfect guy” dealing with past trauma and avoiding his emotions.

Butler reflected on his own life while explaining why the role resonated with him: “You can run from feelings by a new relationship, or you can run from feelings by a new job, and then that moment when you finally got to go, ‘Let’s stop everything and let’s face it.’ And, yeah, so that’s what I resonated with.”

For Butler, the project not only offered the chance to work alongside Kravitz but also to channel some of his own experiences into his character.

Caught Stealing is set for release later this year, and Butler’s revelations on Capital XTRA suggest that audiences can expect a story about more than just action and thrills. As the star himself admitted, it is also about what happens when you stop running from your past and begin to face yourself.
