Scott Mills Breakfast Show opens gates to RHS and Radio 2 Dog Garden

This morning on BBC Radio 2, Scott Mills broadcast his show live from the RHS Chelsea Flower Show as he officially opened the gates to the RHS and Radio 2 Dog Garden.
The RHS and Radio 2 joined forces with Monty Don, who designed the special garden, which is in fact his very first garden for Chelsea Flower Show.
Known for his beloved dogs – including Ned who regularly appears on Gardeners’ World – Monty has created the space with man’s best friend in mind; to lift people’s spirits and celebrate our deep love of dogs and the gardens we share with them.
Scott took along his dog, Teddy, and was joined by fellow Radio 2 presenter and gardening enthusiast, Jo Whiley, who had her dog Brodie with her.
Jo has been very involved with this garden and – with the help of the station’s listeners – curated a bespoke playlist for it inspired by our four-legged friends.
Plus, a structure within the garden features pictures of Radio 2 listeners’ dogs sent in via a specially created ‘Puploader’!
Scott chatted to Monty along with plant expert and the RHS and Radio 2 Dog Garden co-designer, Jamie Butterworth. There were also famous faces and their dogs, including Alex Jones with Scout, Sophie Raworth with Luna, and Paul Whitehouse with Ted (famous to audiences from Gone Fishing).
There was stiff competition for which of the Radio 2 presenters’ dog would get to join Scott and Jo at Chelsea, but after a hard-fought campaign they welcomed Pick of the Pups champion, Chilli Davies, who had fun sniffing out all areas of the garden accompanied by his owner, Sound of the 80s host, Gary Davies.
Taking on the pooch theme in full this morning, the show stopped for the Paws For Thought delivered by Rae Duke and there was a special Woof Morning Minute for the dogs featured in the garden’s Dog House!!
After Chelsea Flower Show, the RHS and Radio 2 Dog Garden will live on across the River Thames at Battersea Dogs and Cats Home for all the rescue dogs and the people who work and volunteer there to enjoy.
