Woman ‘lost for words’ after marriage proposal on Capital Breakfast
This morning on Capital Breakfast a woman from Driffield was left stunned when her boyfriend revealed himself as Capital Breakfast’s Secret Fiancé and proposed live on-air.
It was all done with the help of Jordan North, Chris Stark, and Sian Welby.
Rebecca Bolton, 33, who works at East Riding FA, believed she was in London for a competition-winning overnight stay at the Jumeirah Hotel.
Little did she know, her boyfriend, James Burns, 38, from Essex, had secretly worked with Capital’s producers to set up an unforgettable Valentine’s Day surprise.
For the past two weeks, Capital Breakfast has been teasing listeners with cryptic clues about the identity of the Secret Fiancé. Despite tuning in daily and even questioning James about it, Rebecca had no idea that her own love story was at the heart of the mystery.
The big moment unfolded this morning. Rebecca was in a coffee shop next to Capital’s Leicester Square studios when she was approached by Sian Welby, just minutes after James had secretly slipped into the building.
Sian then led Rebecca inside, where she was taken up in a lift, still completely unaware of what was about to happen.
As the lift doors opened, the studio fell silent. James was waiting for her, and with the nation listening in, he got down on one knee and said: “Hi, surprise! I haven’t practised this or anything, but I’ve been keeping a secret for a few weeks now, and I’m going to ask you to marry me. Will you marry me?”
Obviously surprised, Rebecca replied: “Yeah, course I will!”
The emotional moment was met with cheers from the Capital Breakfast team and an almost speechless Rebecca later admitted that she couldn’t say no and described the entire experience as leaving her “lost for words.”
But the surprise didn’t end there as Jordan announced: “We have one more surprise for you today, right now actually, you have a train to catch because you’re off to Paris!”
Sian added: “You’re going to the city of love. You’re going to stay in a five-star hotel that overlooks the Eiffel Tower, and then, speaking of which, you’re going to be drinking champagne on the top of it tonight!”
