What did Scott Mills reveal about Katy Perry on BBC Radio 2?
Scott Mills is choosing the Tracks of My Years with Gary Davies on Radio 2’s Ken Bruce show this week.
During his conversation with Gary about meeting Katy Perry, Scott revealed which comedy duo she is a fan of.
It was Jo Whiley who introduced Scott to Katy back in 2008, when she invited him and Chris Stark to a gig in North London, telling him a new artist called Katy Perry would be there. Jo explained that her new song I Kissed a Girl was huge in America and was going to be in the UK too.
After the gig, Scott and Chris went backstage, and they ended up talking to Katy for about three hours.
“Fast forward a year and she is one of the world’s biggest stars,” Scott said. “Me and Chris still say to each other now, can you believe we chatted to Katy Perry for that long before she became a megastar.”
Scott told Gary that he thinks Katy is one of the funniest people in the music business because she loves British humour.
“She watched all the kind of old comedy, the British comedy, with that dry humour in it. I remember, I think she said she loved French and Saunders, all that stuff. And I was like, ‘you’re amazing’,” he added.
As well as telling us that Katy is a fan of French and Saunders, Scott also told an interesting story about Robbie Williams.
The pair met when Robbie was performing at Knebworth. They got on well and Robbie invited him to stay if he was ever in LA.
“I had a trip booked to LA and I thought, ‘Why not? I’m not going to get this chance again am I?’ So I ended up staying at his house for three nights,” Scott said.
He explained that Robbie doesn’t really get recognised in LA which is why he moved there. Both of them together with Robbie’s wife Ayda were going out to an Italian restaurant, but Scott was a little unsure how to dress.
“I remember coming downstairs and I was probably wearing something similar to what I’m wearing now, like smart casual, a pair of black jeans probably, like a shirt, but I wasn’t dressed very smartly,” he said. “And I come downstairs and him and Ayda are dressed like they’re going to some kind of premiere, or a red carpet.
“And I said, ‘Should I dress up a bit more?’ And they went, ‘Oh no no no, it’s just that we never go out. So when we do, we like to dress up!’”
