Amanda Holden celebrates after completing 3 Peak Challenge
Heart Breakfast’s Amanda Holden popped a champagne cork live on air this morning at 8.15am, as she reached the summit of the UK’s highest mountain, Ben Nevis, as part of the 3 Peak Challenge.
Amanda, who took on the challenge to raise money for Global’s Make Some Noise, said it was the hardest thing she’s ever done, as she popped the cork at 4,411 feet.
Over 24 hours, Amanda managed to climb the highest mountains of Wales, England and Scotland, Snowdon, Scafell Pike and Ben Nevis. She tackled every element during the challenge including severe weather warnings, 60mph winds, rain and snow.
Amanda climbed the three peaks on no sleep and scaling two of the mountains in the pitch black.
Speaking to her Heart Breakfast co-host Jamie Theakston on-air at the top of Ben Nevis, Amanda said: “We made it by the skin of our teeth, it was horrific. You know, I never understand when I see people give up at the end, but for the first time in my life I thought, I’m not going to do it, I’m not going to make it, I’m going to give up, but we kept going. It was just incredible! We did it!”
Amanda was supported by a group of beneficiaries from some of the small charities supported by Global’s Make Some Noise – ‘Mandy’s Mountaineers’ – who joined Amanda on the challenge.
