Victoria Monét has spoken about touring with Bruno Mars and her hopes for a future restaurant venture.
The American singer-songwriter joined Capital XTRA Breakfast with Robert Bruce and Shayna Marie to discuss her new single Reach Out and life on the road.
Victoria said opening for Bruno Mars has been an inspiring experience, giving her the chance to watch one of music’s biggest performers deliver his live show every night.
She explained that the opportunity came sooner than expected after she had previously talked about wanting to perform in stadiums, before receiving the offer to join the tour six months later.
Victoria said: “It’s just been such an honour not only to perform but I get to like study and watch a true showman night after night deliver these two-and-a-half-hour shows that is just madness.”
The singer added that watching the production, band and choreography has helped her learn from one of the world’s most successful entertainers.
“As soon as I get off stage I get to go back to school and watch and really like take it all in,” she said.
Victoria also praised the atmosphere created by the audiences, saying she enjoys seeing people from different backgrounds coming together at the shows.
“I think the crowd is so multicultural, looking around and seeing how everyone’s just getting along,” she said. “I just wish that the earth could just copy that energy, everyone just being the same vibe all together, having a great time.”
Away from music, Victoria revealed she could see herself creating a restaurant in the future, focusing on bringing people together through food, music and shared experiences.
She explained that she would like to create a place where people can spend time together and enjoy a welcoming environment rather than working there herself.
“To sit at a table with people you love, with food you love, with music you love, that type of environment feels so healthy for the world so I would like to contribute to that,” she revealed.
The Grammy-winning artist added that her interest in food and hospitality was one of the reasons she enjoyed culinary school.
She also revealed her ultimate rnb track of all time:
