Dave Grohl has revealed the heartwarming backstage tradition he now shares with his youngest daughter after every Foo Fighters concert.
Speaking to Chris Moyles on Radio X ahead of the band’s show at Liverpool’s Anfield, the Foo Fighters frontman opened up about life on tour, his post show routine and why walking off stage with his daughter has become his favourite moment of the night.
Grohl explained that before each show the band spends time together relaxing and laughing, saying that making sure everyone is in a good mood is more important than sticking to a strict pre show routine.
After performing, however, there is one tradition he looks forward to above everything else. He said: “One of my favourite things lately has been I walk off, as I’m walking off stage, Fifi will be standing there waiting.
“We go arm in arm, Fifs gives me a towel, we walk back to the dressing room, and Fifs goes and grabs a Guinness and hands it to me and says, ‘I’m proud of you.’ That’s the best. I sit there soaking wet in heaven.”
Grohl also admitted he is not interested in football rivalries despite Foo Fighters performing at the home of Liverpool Football Club.
When Chris Moyles explained the rivalry between Liverpool and Everton, Grohl laughed and replied: “I’ve got no dog in that fight, no skin in that game.”
Although he played as a goalkeeper when he was younger, Grohl joked that his sporting ambitions disappeared after discovering Led Zeppelin!
The interview took place at Ed Sheeran’s Notting Hill restaurant, Bertie Blossoms, ahead of Foo Fighters’ UK performance at Anfield, where Grohl reflected on decades of touring while sharing personal stories from life both on and off the stage.
