Susan Boyle has revealed that some admirers still send her flirtatious fan mail but insists she has little interest in romance these days.
The Scottish singing star made the admission during an appearance on STV Radio’s What’s On Scotland show with presenters Laura Boyd and Emma Cameron, where she reflected on her career, health challenges and plans for new music.
Discussing the letters she receives from fans, Susan laughed that some men appear convinced she might return their affections.
“Some men who like to think I fancy them,” she said.
However, the Britain’s Got Talent star quickly dismissed the idea of pursuing a romance.
Susan joked: “At my age, I don’t have the strength.”
The singer also spoke about the stroke she suffered in 2022 and the role her supporters have played in helping her recovery.
She said she remains grateful for the encouragement she has received from the public throughout difficult periods in her life.
“I’m very humbled by the public. They’ve been very friendly, very accepting,” she said.
Reflecting on her recovery, she added: “I wasn’t too well. I had a stroke for a wee while there, but I’ve got over most of it.”
The singer revealed that some people still misunderstand the effects of her illness.
Susan explained: “Some people think I sound as if I’m drunk, but I’m not.”
Despite the setback, she is determined to keep moving forward.
She said: “I was seriously ill but I’m back on it now. They couldn’t shut me up for long enough!”
Susan credited her fans with helping her stay positive during the toughest moments.
She said: “[The fans] mean a lot to me in that they’ve given me the encouragement to go on. Even when things have been really bad, they’ve been writing to me, some of them, so the support that I have has been quite moving.”
The interview comes during a busy period for the singer, who has recently appeared in advertising campaigns for Cornetto and Irn-Bru.
She also revealed that new music could be on the horizon after returning to the recording studio.
Susan confirmed she has been working with legendary songwriter Diane Warren, whose hits include Cher’s If I Could Turn Back Time and Aerosmith’s I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing.
She said: “I’ve been in the recording studio doing a couple of things for Diane Warren.”
The singer hopes to travel to Los Angeles to meet Warren as the project develops.
“She’s a composer, and I hope to go over to LA sometime to see her. It’s in the pipeline, but I’ll take my time,” she said.
Her last studio album was released in 2016, but she suggested fans may not have to wait too much longer for new material.
Susan added: “It’s very nice that I can take my time because I’m a perfectionist. I like to get things right.”
