Capital Breakfast listeners were left stunned when Siân Welby walked out of the studio during yesterday morning’s show after spotting a tempting last-minute holiday deal on her phone.
The presenter was on air with co-hosts Jordan North and Chris Stark when she decided to “drop everything” and investigate the offer, leaving the studio while the programme was still on air.
Rather than disappearing completely, Siân continued presenting the show via a live mobile link from the back of a London black cab as she headed off in pursuit of a spontaneous summer getaway.
The unusual broadcast moment was part of a promotion linked to easyJet’s new “Drop Everything” flights, designed to help travellers find and book flights departing within the next 48 hours.
Listeners were able to follow Siân’s journey in real time as she balanced her presenting duties with a growing sense of wanderlust.
Speaking from the taxi, she explained why the offer had caught her attention.
Siân said: “I’m working until 10am, but I’ve just seen the Drop Everything Flights that easyJet have launched on their website. I love family holidays abroad and this makes travelling last minute so easy. It’s a total gamechanger.”
The presenter, who became a mum last year, admitted spontaneous trips are not usually part of her routine.
She added: “I am a new mum and I am never spontaneous. That’s it, I am getting myself a last-minute flight and a date with a poolside lounger.
“Taxi to the airport please, handle the decks – I’ve got a poolside lounger waiting. Sorry, Global!”
The campaign comes as new research from easyJet and easyJet holidays suggests more Britons are embracing spontaneous travel plans this summer with younger travellers leading the trend.
