Graham Norton lands rare Madonna interview for Radio 2 and TV special

Madonna is set to join Graham Norton for a rare and intimate interview that will air on BBC Radio 2 as well as BBC One later this month.

The world exclusive special was recorded at London’s iconic Koko venue, the site of Madonna’s first UK performance in 1983 and the launch event for her 2005 album Confessions on a Dance Floor.

While the TV broadcast will air on BBC One on 26 June, radio listeners will get the chance to hear the full conversation on Radio 2 on 4 July from 6pm to 8pm. Both versions will also be available on BBC Sounds and BBC iPlayer following transmission.

The special comes ahead of the release of Madonna’s highly anticipated new album, Confessions II, in July.

During the interview, Madonna reflects on her early years in New York, her long relationship with the UK and her recent appearance at Coachella.

The programme also features contributions from her long-time collaborator Stuart Price, who joins the conversation to discuss the making of her new album.

Graham said the interview was particularly meaningful because of the venue where it was recorded.

“As a lifelong fan it is always a thrill to interview Madonna, but to meet her on the dance floor where she first performed in London over thirty years ago felt incredibly special,” he said.

He added that Madonna remains a legendary performer who continues to bring people together through music.

Jonathan Rothery, Head of BBC Popular Music TV, described the pairing of Madonna and Graham Norton as a natural fit, praising both for their ability to connect with audiences.

Madonna remains one of the most successful recording artists of all time, with 13 UK number one singles and 12 UK number one albums.

Since releasing her debut single Everybody in 1982, she has collected seven Grammy Awards, two Golden Globe Awards and a place in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

The Radio 2 broadcast is expected to give fans a rare chance to hear Madonna discuss her music and career at length as she prepares to launch her latest album.
