Mumford & Sons return to Maida Vale for Radio 2 Piano Room performance

Grammy-winning Mumford & Sons returned to BBC Radio 2’s Piano Room today, 17 years after their first session at the iconic Maida Vale Studios.

Joining Vernon Kay and the BBC Concert Orchestra, the band performed a set including their classic ‘The Cave’, new release ‘The Banjo Song’, and a cover of Taylor Swift’s ‘cowboy like me’.

Marcus Mumford, lead singer, also reflected on his connection to Swift’s song, revealing, “This is one of my favourite songs ever actually.” He had provided backing vocals for the single years ago, recorded in the band’s own studio.

Speaking on Radio 2, the band discussed their global success, upcoming new album, touring, and their collaboration with Swift.

Mumford & Sons described the experience of performing with the orchestra as special. “We are stoked to be making our debut at Radio 2’s Piano Room alongside the BBC Concert Orchestra.

“We have rarely had the opportunity to collaborate with any orchestra, and this is one of the best in the world so hopefully we don’t play too many wrong notes. It really is an honour. We can’t wait,” they said.

Listeners can catch the full Piano Room performance and interview on BBC Sounds. The session will also be available to watch on Radio 2’s Piano Room YouTube playlist and on BBC iPlayer.
