Radio X listeners’ choice for 2025 is The Sofa by Wolf Alice

Radio X listeners have named Wolf Alice’s The Sofa as their Record of the Year for 2025.

The announcement was made today, with the result decided by a public vote from the stations listeners across the UK. The winning track was released in July and is taken from the band’s fourth studio album The Clearing.

The Sofa beat competition from artists including Oasis, Biffy Clyro, Pulp and Sam Fender to top the list, securing its place as the station’s most popular track of the past twelve months.

Radio X’s Record of the Year celebrates music released over the last year and reflects the tracks that resonated most strongly with its audience.

2025 has marked a significant year for Wolf Alice. Their album The Clearing debuted at number one and earned a Mercury Music Prize nomination, making them the only artist to have their first four albums consecutively recognised by the prize.

The band also sold out a UK tour this year, including two December shows at The O2 in London, and are set to headline the Royal Albert Hall next year.

Oasis’ thirtieth anniversary release Morning Glory Unplugged finished in second place, while Biffy Clyro’s A Little Love took third.

Sam Fender featuring Olivia Dean placed in the top five with Rein Me In, while other artists appearing in the top ten included Sombr, Hayley Williams and Kasabian.

In a year dominated by headlines around the Oasis reunion tour, Radio X listeners also showed strong support for Britpop and nineties-era artists.

Pulp’s Spike Island placed fourth, while Richard Ashcroft, who supported Oasis on their reunion tour, came ninth with Lover.

Matt Deverson, Managing Editor of Radio X, said it was fitting that such a strong list arrived in the year the station celebrated its tenth birthday, adding that the results reflected the current strength of British rock and indie music.
