Edith Bowman joins BBC Radio 3 as new Sound of Cinema host

Edith Bowman is the new presenter of BBC Radio 3’s flagship programme celebrating the art of film music, Sound of Cinema.

Launching on Saturday 1 November at 4pm, Edith will take listeners on a journey through classic and contemporary movie scores, featuring interviews, themed features, and hand-picked selections that showcase how music shapes storytelling on screen.

Her first show features a special conversation with Oscar-winning composer Rachel Portman, whose work includes Emma, Chocolat, and The Cider House Rules.

Upcoming guests across the autumn series will include legendary film composer Alan Silvestri, known for Back to the Future and Forrest Gump, alongside appearances from Dame Emma Thompson and Graham Norton, both sharing their personal connections with film and music.

Edith Bowman has long been one of the UK’s most recognisable voices at the crossroads of film and sound. She is the creator and host of Soundtracking, the acclaimed podcast where she has interviewed some of the world’s leading directors and composers — from Greta Gerwig and Martin Scorsese to Hans Zimmer and Mica Levi.

Edith will continue to present Cinematic Soundtracks on BBC Radio 3 Unwind. Speaking about joining Sound of Cinema, she said: “Film and music are two of my passions that I’m very lucky to enthuse about in my work.

“I’m excited to add Sound of Cinema to that, and to share so much incredible music with the audience. I’m genuinely over the moon to be welcomed into the Radio 3 family alongside my work on Radio 3 Unwind.”
