Rory Bremner jokes about Keir Starmer’s Digital ID scheme on Radio X

Rory Bremner couldn’t resist a political punchline when he joined The Chris Moyles Show on Radio X this morning.
The comedian and impressionist joked that it was “ironic” for Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer to plan an identity card scheme when “he doesn’t have one himself”.
Bremner appeared on the show to chat with Chris and Dominic Byrne about his touring show and his long-running love of political impressions.
Reflecting on famous voices from his past, he said audiences still respond most strongly to characters like former Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott.
“As I say, for ten years we had a Deputy Prime Minister who looked like a National Express coach driver!” Bremner joked, before launching into one of his trademark routines.
He added that people often prefer those classic voices to newer ones such as Jonathan Reynolds or Keir Starmer.
Turning his attention to the Prime Minister, Bremner quipped: “He’s going to introduce identity cards, which is weird, because he doesn’t have one! He only has them so he can keep tabs on who’s working for him, because it’s day in, day out!”
The impressionist went on to joke that one day Starmer might “go full Julie Andrews” at a climate conference, singing I Have Confidence in Sunshine — a line that left Moyles and Byrne laughing in the studio.
