Radio 1 announces Lewis Capaldi to perform with full orchestra

Lewis Capaldi is to perform his debut album in a special one-off show with a full live orchestra for BBC Radio 1 next month.

Radio 1’s Clara Amfo made the announcement that he’ll perform with the Manchester Camerata Orchestra as part of Radio 1 Presents: The Lewis Capaldi Symphony on Monday 5 August in Croxteth, Liverpool.

The Manchester Camerata is used to this kind of thing as they’re the orchestra for the hugely successful Hacienda Classical concerts of reworked dance classics from the famous Manchester nightclub, performed around the world. They also performed as part of Peter Hook’s Joy Division Orchestrated, which played to a rapturous audience at the Royal Albert Hall last Saturday.

Singer songwriter Lewis Capaldi, who’s from West Lothian, emerged last year and has become one of the UK’s biggest artists. His single Someone You Loved was at number one on the charts for seven weeks and was recently named biggest song of 2019 so far. His debut album Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent spent four weeks at the top of the album charts.

Capaldi has previously featured on Radio 1’s Brit List as well as appearing on BBC Music’s Sound of 2018 longlist. He played at Radio 1’s Big Weekend in Middlesbrough and has performed in Radio 1’s Live Lounge.

Stormzy’s a fan and the Jonas Brothers recently covered his number one track in Radio 1’s Live Lounge, which received over 2 million views.
