Amanda Holden swaps heels for hiking boots in latest challenge
Amanda Holden is wondering what she’s signed up for in a new challenge to raise money for charity.
The Heart Breakfast presenter is to attempt the ‘3 Peaks Challenge’ next month in aid of Global’s Make Some Noise, which raises money and awareness for small charities supporting disadvantaged people across the UK.
The gruelling trek, known for testing physical and mental toughness, will see Amanda climbing the highest mountains of Wales, England and Scotland (Snowdon, Scafell Pike, Ben Nevis) within 24 hours.
On Thursday 6 October, she will begin climbing the 10,476 feet and travelling 706 miles in 24 hours for the challenge. Fighting the urge to sleep, it involves an overnight ascent of Ben Nevis, aiming to reach the summit of the UK’s highest peak – which stands at a massive 4,413 feet above sea level – before the end of her Heart Breakfast show on Friday 7 October.
A team of charity service users known as Mandy’s Mountaineers, who are supported by some of the small charities being helped by Global’s Make Some Noise this year, will accompany Amanda on the journey.
Amanda says: “Here we go! I’m ditching my heels for hiking boots and scaling the 3 Peaks!
“All in aid of Global’s Make Some Noise, I’m attempting The 3 Peaks Challenge in 24 hours next month. I’m looking forward to it but as I look at my map and compass I’m wondering just what I’ve signed up for!
“I’ll be supported by a fantastic team on the journey and I’m totally up for giving this challenge my all. We’re all ready to raise as much money as possible for these incredible charities to help make some noise for the work that they do!
“And yes… I will be packing a pair of heels and a pair of eyelashes for the photo finish!”
