McFly are back in the studio, with Danny Jones producing new music as the band celebrates 23 years together.
Tom Fletcher confirmed the news this morning while speaking on The Chris Moyles Show on Radio X about his new children’s book The Danger Game!
He said the band is currently recording, although he admitted he was unsure whether their next release would be their eighth or ninth album because of a previous “lost album”.
He also invited Chris Moyles to visit the studio and hear some of the new songs, revealing that fellow McFly member Danny Jones is producing the recordings.
The singer and songwriter was also asked whether McFly is still as enjoyable after more than two decades together and made it clear that the band remains an important part of his life.
Tom said: “It is the best! McFly is like home, you know?”
He explained that while he works on books, musicals and other projects, McFly has remained a constant since the band began when he was 18 and Dougie Poynter was 15.
Tom added: “McFly is home and we love it. And it is all we have known since well I was eighteen, Dougie was fifteen. It has been our whole lives.”
The band has now been together for 23 years, with Tom reflecting on how quickly the time has passed during his conversation with Chris and Dominic Byrne.
Alongside the McFly update, he also spoke about his work writing books for children and admitted that one part of the job leaves him particularly nervous.
He revealed that he finds visiting schools and reading his stories to children “terrifying”, because young audiences are not afraid to give their honest opinions.
“It is terrifying going into schools and reading. Honestly, it is so scary! Going into a classroom because they are just brutally honest,” he said.
However, he also said that visiting schools provides valuable feedback about how children respond to his books.
Tom explained that his aim is to give children a positive experience with reading, rather than making books feel like something they simply have to get through.
“You don’t want to give them a book that is a real slog to read and then they have to just get through it,” he said.
The Danger Game! is Tom’s latest children’s book, with his appearance on Radio X combining the new release with an update on what is happening with McFly.
