Wayne Rooney has revealed he would love to become a judge on The Voice after being asked to take part in a very different role.
The former footballer made the admission while appearing alongside wife Coleen Rooney on Capital Breakfast with Jordan North, Chris Stark and Sian Welby, where they discussed their new Disney+ series The Real Rooneys.
Wayne explained that he had previously expressed an interest in getting involved with The Voice, after the show held its opening event at Old Trafford, but the opportunity turned out to be rather different from what he had imagined.
He said: “I’m thinking I could be a judge!… It was to turn the lights on at the start at Old Trafford!”
The revelation prompted laughter in the studio, with Wayne explaining that he would have liked the chance to be involved in some way, even joking about being a guest alongside the judges.
Wayne also admitted that while he loves music and singing, he knows that singing is not necessarily his strongest talent, saying: “I love music! I love singing but I’m not very good at it.”
During the Capital Breakfast chat, Coleen also reflected on her experience appearing on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!, revealing that taking part had been something she had wanted to do for years.
She explained: “Obviously I did the jungle, and that was the one I did say, if ever I do reality TV that would be the one.”
Coleen said the experience had been something she had wanted to tick off, adding that she had “loved doing it” and was now concentrating on her other projects, including The Real Rooneys.
The couple also discussed what they discovered about each other while filming the new series, with Coleen revealing that Wayne had not realised how involved she was in her work.
She said one scene prompted Wayne to tell her: “you actually do get involved in things!” after he had previously assumed she mainly put her name to projects.
Wayne admitted he had been surprised to see Coleen choosing fabrics and becoming involved in the detail of her fashion work, saying it was the first time he had realised how hands on she was.
There was also a surprising admission from Wayne about Mr Tumble, with the father of four joking that repeated viewings of the children’s programme eventually changed his opinion.
He said: “I hate this person.”
The Real Rooneys is now streaming on Disney+, giving viewers an insight into the couple’s family life and what happens behind the scenes.
