BBC Radio 2 and BBC Two will mark 20 years of Amy Winehouse’s Back to Black with special programming celebrating her music and legacy.
Radio 2, BBC Two and BBC Sounds will broadcast Amy Winehouse: Back to Black at 20, a recording of a special concert featuring the Amy Winehouse Band performing the album in full.
The concert takes place on Wednesday 21 October at the Roundhouse in Camden, London, and will be broadcast on Radio 2 on Monday 26 October from 7pm to 9pm within Jo Whiley’s show.
On television, BBC Two and BBC iPlayer will broadcast Amy Winehouse: Back to Black at 20 in late October, with the concert forming the centrepiece of an afternoon and evening dedicated to her legacy.
A dedicated iPlayer channel will bring together some of Amy’s most memorable BBC performances before joining BBC Two for the concert, with further performances and documentaries following the broadcast.
The concert is led by original Back to Black producers Mark Ronson and Salaam Remi, alongside Amy’s long term musical director Dale Davis and producers Paul O’Duffy, p*nut and Darcus Beese OBE.
Special guests will include Baby Rose, Corinne Bailey Rae, FLO, Jessie Reyez, Jorja Smith, Lianne La Havas, Nia Smith, Sasha Keable, Skye Newman and Yebba, alongside writer and producer p*nut.
Radio 2 will also give listeners another opportunity to hear Amy Winehouse: Legacy of a Lioness, a two-part special available on BBC Sounds from Sunday 11 October.
Alexandra Burke, Ella Henderson, Emeli Sandé, Jessie Ware and Mabel will share their favourite Amy songs and discuss the influence she had on their music.
BBC Radio 6 Music will devote a full day to Amy on Friday 23 October with Amy Winehouse Forever, running from 7am until 9pm and featuring special guests, fan stories and music from Amy, her musical heroes and artists she inspired.
Nick Grimshaw, Deb Grant, Craig Charles, Huw Stephens and Femi Koleoso will each present programmes exploring different aspects of Amy’s career and musical legacy during the day.
Craig Charles will broadcast Amy’s Maida Vale session, recorded in 2003 for his Funk and Soul Show, alongside his interview with Amy from 2006.
He will also hear from Amy’s musical director Dale Davis and Ade Omotayo, while Femi Koleoso will speak to Amy’s goddaughter and musical mentee Dionne Bromfield.
6 Music will also broadcast an Amy Winehouse Artist Collection from midnight on Tuesday 20 October until 5am, with the programmes subsequently available on BBC Sounds.
The collection will include Amy Winehouse Live, In Their Own Words: Amy Winehouse and Amy Winehouse at the BBC, featuring recordings and performances from throughout her career.
