Reverend Kate Botley was forced to leave her BBC Radio 2 show after less than an hour into it when she became unwell during Sunday’s programme.
Kate, who co-hosts Good Morning Sunday with Jason Mohammad, had been on air since 6am before her voice became increasingly difficult and she was sent home to rest and recover.
Jason continued presenting the programme alone and explained to listeners that Kate had been struggling during the early part of the show.
He told listeners: “Unfortunately, if you’ve been listening since six, you will know that she’s been a little poorly. So what we’ve done is we have sent her home, so she’s gone home to get some rest.”
Jason also thanked listeners for the messages they had been sending Kate, saying she had wanted to pass on her appreciation before leaving the studio.
He added: “Before she left, she wanted to say a big thank you for all the love and lovely, gorgeous messages that you’ve been sending.”
Jason then sent his own message of support to his co-host, saying her voice had been “really struggling this morning” before wishing her a speedy recovery.
He said: “Reverend Kate, we are sending love and strength and power across the radio airwaves today. So get well soon.”
Kate later gave listeners an update through Instagram, thanking her BBC Radio 2 colleagues for recognising that she needed to go home after her short time on air.
She wrote: “After 50 minutes on air it became apparent I was no use to anyone. So many lovely messages from our lovely listeners.”
Kate also thanked Jason and Jenny Smith, who were involved with the programme, describing them as “THE BEST humans” following the decision to send her home.
She revealed that she was recovering on the sofa with her dog, some hot Vimto and comfortable clothes, giving listeners a more personal update on how she was spending the rest of the morning.
Kate also apologised to two families whose babies she had been due to christen that day, explaining that she did not want to risk passing on whatever had made her unwell.
She finished her message with: “See you on the other side” and added: “I never get ill.”
