The cast of The Devil Wears Prada 2 joined Gary Davies on BBC Radio 2’s Breakfast Show for a wide-ranging interview celebrating the sequel and reflecting on the legacy of the original film.
Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep, Stanley Tucci, Simone Ashley and Caleb Hearon appeared in the studio on the show.
They discussed the continued popularity of The Devil Wears Prada, which was first released 20 years ago, and how the cast have stayed in touch since filming.
The conversation also turned to fan culture around the original film, with Meryl Streep revealing that audiences still quote lines back to her in public, including “By all means move at glacial pace” and “That’s all”, which remain some of the most recognisable moments from the movie.
Meryl also spoke about working with Lady Gaga on the sequel, describing how the singer joined the production during her world tour and quickly adapted to filming.
She praised Gaga’s ability to perform under pressure and said it was “astonishing” to watch her build a performance in the moment with minimal rehearsal.
She told Gary: “Not only did we get to meet her, I got to act with her. She just flew down in the middle of a world tour and did this for us. She was improvising in the moment, and it was all pretty astonishing. What a musician, what an artist she is.”
Anne Hathaway also praised Gaga, describing her as humble and “really sweet”, adding that she felt like someone who truly embodied star quality while still being grounded on set.
The interview also took a lighter turn when Gary asked Meryl Streep to judge his 1980s fashion style in character as Miranda Priestly.
After jokingly examining his outfit, she suggested his shade of blue was closer to sky blue than cerulean, adding that it was “trying so hard” and “adorable”, before quipping that it looked like “your mother’s top”!
