“I don’t know if I’m the guy for this,” Sam Thompson says on Hits Radio

Sam Thompson joined his fellow Hits Radio presenters, Fleur East, Will Best and James Barr on the Breakfast Show this morning where he made an honest admission.

As the news broke about Sam’s Matchball Mission for this year’s Soccer Aid for UNICEF, he admitted: “I don’t know if I’m the guy [for this challenge], but I AM the guy, so I have to do it!”

The challenge will see Sam taking this year’s Soccer Aid Match Ball from Stamford Bridge to Old Trafford – the location of this year’s charity match.

Continuing, he revealed: “The training is going terribly. Before I started the training the furthest I’d run was 5k and a marathon, I think is 42k. It’s a marathon a day for five days and then an up to 80k bike ride – it’s 260 miles in five days.

“Actually, as the crow flies it’s a straight line from London to Manchester but of course we’re not doing that we’re stopping off at different football stadiums along the way!

“I was like what are we doing?! But it’s such an amazing cause and the honour of doing that? I’ve never felt honour like it.”

And the Chelsea supporter doesn’t mind the impact that this will have on his ability to play on the actual day. As he told Fleur, Will and James: “If I get two minutes on the pitch, I’ll be happy!”
