Clive Myrie to host joint Jazz FM and BBC Radio 3 series
Jazz FM and BBC Radio 3 are to collaborate with a joint broadcast celebrating the 30th anniversary of the EFG London Jazz Festival.
The series of 10 short features fronted by Clive Myrie will air daily on both stations from Friday 11 to Sunday 20 November.
Journalist and Mastermind host Clive, has a passion for jazz music. He has previously hosted some of the jazz themed BBC Proms broadcast on BBC TV, the landmark ten-part series ‘The Definitive History of Jazz in Britain’ for Jazz FM in 2020, and most recently ‘The Truth About Jazz’ on BBC World Service.
In ‘Clive Myrie’s 10 Essential Jazz Albums’, he will play a piece of music from each of the albums he believes should be in every jazz lover’s collection. The series will feature recordings from the likes of Pharoah Sanders, Della Reese and Nubya Garcia along with many others. It will broadcast nightly on Jazz FM at 6.50pm and on BBC Radio 3 weekdays on In Tune at 6.20pm and on Weekend Breakfast at 8.40am.
Clive Myrie said: “Two of my favourite radio stations and ten of my favourite jazz albums! What’s not to like? It’s wonderful to be part of this brilliant collaboration between Radio 3 and Jazz FM.
“It was a privilege to be asked to work on this series. I won’t lie, it wasn’t easy whittling down my jazz collection and a lifetime of jazz listening to just 10 albums, and 10 tracks. I hope everyone enjoys the selection though I’m sure there’ll be fierce debate about the final choice.”
BBC Radio 3 Controller Alan Davey said: “At Radio 3 we are fans of all kinds of music and we love working with colleagues in the music industry to make sure audiences have access to the most carefully curated, exciting, and stimulating output across a variety of genres.
“We are therefore delighted to partner once again with those brilliant, lovely people at Jazz FM for this year’s EFG London Jazz Festival, to present jazz chosen by none other than Clive Myrie.
“Clive is a friend of Radio 3, a regular Proms TV presenter, and a music lover. I look forward to listening to his jazz choices on our airwaves and on those of our friends and partners at Jazz FM.”
Nick Pitts, Content Director of Jazz FM and Scala Radio added: “This is a unique partnership that is built on years of respect, and the chance to work in collaboration with our friends Alan, Janet and all at Radio 3 – and of course Clive again – is always welcome.
“This innovative series of shorts is an example of a simple but incredibly effective piece of programming that all jazz lovers will enjoy, plus it gives Clive a chance to remind people of his unbridled knowledge of jazz, wherever they listen.”
