Energy Minister’s bizarre interview interruption on 5 Live

The Energy Minister Claire Perry MP unexpectedly interrupted her own interview with BBC Radio 5 Live’s Emma Barnett today, to comment on her lipstick.

Ms Perry was being interviewed on The Emma Barnett Show about her Department’s contingency planning around Brexit and was speaking about how she hadn’t seen a Brexit information pack being sent to businesses on Friday.

In the middle of her comments, she interrupted herself to make an observation about Emma Barnett’s make up, saying: “By the way, nice lipstick – matches your microphone perfectly.”

Alistair Campbell, who was the next guest on Emma Barnett’s Show followed the conversation by saying: “If you were to send that interview to Armando Iannucci, he could run it as a scene from The Thick of It, without changing a word.”
