Shania Twain shares touching reason behind friendship with Harry Styles
Shania Twain has spoken about her close friendship with Harry Styles, revealing how his relationship with his mother reminds her of the parent she lost before finding worldwide fame.
The country music superstar was speaking on Capital Breakfast with Jordan North, Chris Stark and Sian Welby ahead of her appearances supporting Harry Styles at Wembley Stadium this summer.
Shania said she was honoured to be invited on the tour and described the former One Direction star as both talented and genuinely kind.
Speaking about their friendship, she revealed that one of the things she admires most is Harry’s close bond with his mother, Anne Twist, which she believes has helped keep him grounded despite spending much of his life in the spotlight.
“He’s a cool person and very talented. We have a sweet and genuine mutual respect as artists and it’s very cool,” she said.
The singer then reflected on the loss of her own mother, Sharon, who died aged 42 and never had the chance to witness the extraordinary success that followed.
“I lost my mum and she was only forty-two years old and she didn’t see any of my success, Shania revealed. “So, when I meet someone like Harry who is so in love with his mum and she’s been there with him, I really love that about him and them.”
Shania said she believes Harry’s family support has played an important role throughout his career, helping him stay level-headed despite achieving global fame at a young age.
“She definitely has to be why he’s still so grounded after all the success from a young age. That’s a lot and he’s been famous for a long time,” she said.
The interview also revealed a sweet moment from the early days of their friendship. Sian Welby recalled reports that Harry once asked Shania to call his mother on her birthday as a surprise gift.
Laughing about the request, Shania confirmed it was true and said Harry had handed over his mum’s phone number, hoping she could help make the occasion special.
Chris Stark joked that it sounded like the sort of last-minute favour someone might ask for after forgetting to buy a present, prompting laughter in the studio.
