Greg James Breakfast on Radio 1 extended for the summer

Schedule changes will see Radio 1 Breakfast with Greg James extended by half an hour until 11am, Monday to Thursday for the summer.

Greg says: “Being on the radio is pretty much my entire personality so why not do an extra half hour a day for all those who can’t be bothered waking up early for the Breakfast Show in the summer holidays.”

Elsewhere, Sam and Danni will cover Friday Early Breakfast (5am – 7am) from 5 July, until January 2025 when the next wave of new presenter take over the slot which showcases new and emerging presenting talent. Sam and Danni will host Friday Early Breakfast alongside Weekend Breakfast (Saturdays and Sundays, 7am – 10am) with both shows broadcasting from Cardiff.

Martha will continue Annie’s legacy in showcasing the biggest and best new Dance tracks. She has been hugely supported by Annie and was one of the inaugural recipients of the Annie Nightingale Presents Scholarship.

In other news, Radio 1 will broadcast live from Glastonbury, TRNSMT, Ibiza, Malta and Reading and Leeds, in addition to being live from Radio 1’s Big Weekend, Parklife and Download over previous weekends.

Later this summer Radio 1 will also launch a number of new shows on the BBC Sounds Radio 1 Dance stream.

Arielle Free will host Radio 1 Dance Morning, which will launch on 15 July and be available Monday to Sunday.

Danny Howard will present Radio 1’s Dance Party Warm Up, a weekly show available every Thursday (6pm – 8pm). Pete Tong will curate his Essential History of Dance a weekly show (Saturdays, 7pm – 8pm) dedicated to telling the story of the Dance genre.

Additionally, Connor Coates will present a daily playlist – Radio 1 Dance – which will come from Northern Ireland, playing the best new, current and classic Dance tracks, and Charlie Hedges’ Radio 1 Dance Anthems will be streamed daily across afternoons.

Aled Haydn Jones, Head of BBC Radio 1, says: “The summer months see a change in routine for our young listeners and as a station, it’s important we acknowledge this and continue to cater to their needs.

“With that in mind, I’m pleased to introduce our new summer 2024 schedule which offers a variety of new shows and content as well as an extra thirty minutes of Radio 1 Breakfast! I can’t wait to tune in!”
